WHILE SEEKING IMAGES OF GENE RAYBURN FALLING DOWN...
I CAME ACROSS this remarkable collection of SMOKING ON NATIONALLY SYNDICATED TELEVISION.
I RECALL the first time I saw Ed Asner light up on a Match Game rerun. It was like staring into an alternate dimension.
ALSO: REALLY, Alex Karras? Were you not supposedly an ATHLETE?
I ALSO ESPECIALLY ENJOY: Skip Stephenson's blue jumpsuit.
(OH: if any of you are wondering, I am extremely heartened by last night's POLITICAL RESULTS; but I feel we have been here twice before....)
That is all.

Didn't everyone smoke back then?
I certainly didn't!
man, I miss Richard Dawson...
Quite a collection. And is it just me or did Paul Williams ever remind anyone else of Dr. Zaius?
Holy wow! My article much earlier today was also about smoking and/or cigarettes... eerie.
(P.s. This is not a shameless plug)
I love Match Game. I wish someone would bring it back. I think it'd still work today.
Hodg-man in the Charles Nelson Reilly seat anyone?
I love "Match Game". The most frustrating episode was with a fill-in-the-blank pun answer that was obviously supposed to be "Moby Duck". No one, not even the Chuckster, got it right. Every time it runs I'm screaming "MOBY DUCK! MOBY DUUUUUCK!" at the top of my lungs.
The authorities are usually not notified, thankfully.
brian - paul williams did in fact play a monkey, dr virgil, in battle for the planet of the apes in 1973. omg what's wrong with me for knowing that.
You'll love this footage from a "quit smoking" TV show.
I actually thought that was the Dalai Lama at first…
Ah, but do you have any footage of celebrities using chewing tobacco?
It is quite a collection, it's fairly strange seeing those photos..
brian floca, Williams played Dr. or Professor Virgil in Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Anthony Bourdin (sp) smokes all the time on his TV show.
Thank you, curiously dull mint and m for bringing it all back home with the Paul Williams/Planet of the Apes news, which was news to me.
If I could complete the circle by posting one of those pictures that you sometimes see of actors in full chimp makeup smoking between shooting scenes, I would.
